Alibaug eats like the coast it sits on: Konkan at its core, with Malvani heat and a Koli fishing village's respect for the day's catch. The best meals here aren't in restaurants at all — they're the thali your in-villa cook lays out after a market run. But when you do go looking, this is where we point people.
For the full Konkan thali
Start with sol kadhi — that pink, kokum-and-coconut cooler that does more for the heat than any drink. A proper thali follows: bangda fry, prawn curry, rice bhakri, and a vegetable you won't recognise but will ask about. Eat slowly. It's not a meal you rush.
For the roadside detour
Somewhere between the jetty and your villa, there is a stall with a queue of locals and no signboard. That's the one. Vada pav, misal, and cutting chai — the whole point of a Konkan road trip is stopping at it. Ask your host to mark it on the map before you set out.
