You could spend the entire weekend between the villa and the beach, and plenty of people happily do. But the coast behind the sand is worth a morning — a string of forts, creeks, and markets that most guests never think to ask about.
The forts
Kolaba is the famous one, but Revdanda's crumbling ramparts, half-swallowed by trees, are quieter and stranger. Further south, the sea-fort of Murud-Janjira has never been taken — a boat ride out and a scramble through history with the waves right below you.
The markets
Get to a fish market at first light and you'll understand this coast better than any guidebook could teach you. The Koli women drive a hard, cheerful bargain; the ice is loud; the catch is an hour old. Buy something, hand it to your cook, and eat it for lunch. That's the loop that makes a Konkan weekend whole.
